Evangelisation
We enact our mission through evangelisation to ourselves and the wider community.
Social Justice Group
Throughout each year opportunities are offered for parishioners to continue to develop their faith through education programs. Please consult the newsletter for information about these programs, or contact the parish office.
Lifelong Learning
Parishioners are offered opportunities for spiritual and faith development
Ecumenical Planning Group
Ecumenism: Unity of Christian Churches. Our aims are:
- To work and pray for unity;
- To cooperate with initiatives of the Queensland Churches Together (QCT); and
- To activate the prayer of Jesus that “all who believe may be one.”
Some activities include:
- Engaging in small faith sharing groups e.g. Christians in Dialogue Programs and Lenten Gospel Discussions
- Combined Churches Prayer Service. See the parish newsletter for upcoming ecumenical gatherings.
Parish Resource Centre
At St Bernard’s and St Catherine’s there is a wide range of resources on spirituality, theology, prayer, Christian living, church documents and the saints available for borrowing.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
This is a process, which initiates unbaptised adults into the Catholic Church. It is a responsibility of the whole parish, usually culminating in celebration of Easter Sacraments. Inquirers are supported in this process of becoming full members of the Catholic Church. Contact the parish office.
Baptism Preparation
Preparation for parents seeking to have their infants baptised is held on the FIRST MONDAY of the month excluding January. Meetings are held in the St Bernard’s Aspinall Centre at 7.00 pm. Parents must attend the preparation session prior to their infants baptism. Brochures are available at the churches or parish office.
Parish Sacramental Program – Christian Initiation of Children of Catechetical Age
Children are eligible to prepare for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist once they have turned seven years of age and are discerned ready to begin preparation. Preparation is interactive and child and family focussed. Information evenings are held at the beginning of each year and timetables and activities are made available. Children, who have turned ten years or older, are eligible to prepare for the First Rite of Reconciliation. Brochures are available at the churches or parish office.
Initiation (Baptism) for Children of Catechetical Age
Often for one reason or another parents have not had their children baptised. A process is available to assist children of catechetical age to prepare for the sacrament of Baptism. Depending on the child’s age he/she would attend catechetical classes. Please contact the office for enrolment information.
